What is the School Readiness Council?

The School Readiness Council plans activities and events that help provide parents and children with information about resources available regarding the transitions that occur during the early childhood years. The council consists of members of various service agencies throughout town including Ashford Youth Services, Babcock Library, Board of Education, school administration and faculty, local family day care and parent representatives.

How do we support Families?

We provide parent and child interactive activities and workshops as well as literacy and cultural events. Some examples include:
Family Reading Night
Parenting Concerns Workshop
Motor Development Workshop
Other programs based on needs or interests
These programs are available to all families in the Ashford community at no cost.

FY23 School Readiness RFP Available

Ashford School, as fiduciary, in partnership with the Town of Ashford and Ashford School Readiness Council, is applying for the Connecticut State Department of Education School Readiness Grant for fiscal year July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023.

School Readiness funds may be used to purchase spaces for preschool children from NAEYC accredited center-based programs or programs seeking NAEYC accreditation, including for-profit or not-for profit preschool programs, public school preschool programs, Head Start programs, and state funded day care programs. Qualified NAEYC accredited center-based programs or programs seeking NAEYC accreditation located in the Town of Ashford can apply for funding to add additional spaces to their preschool program.

Contact Sharon Kozey, School Readiness Liaison, at 860-933-8587, to obtain the Request for Proposal by Friday, March 11, 2022. The deadline for submittal of applications is 3 pm on Friday, March 25, 2022. One electronic copy must be sent to Sharon Kozey at ashfordsrc@Hotmail.com and one hard copy must be received by mailed or dropped off to:

School Readiness Quality Enhancement Grant FY 2023

Open Bid Process

Ashford School Readiness Quality Enhancement Grant Program is available during the 2022-2023 school year.   The purpose of the Quality Enhancement Grant is to expand comprehensive services for children ages 3-4 enrolled in the School Readiness classrooms in Ashford.    The grant amount  will not exceed $3,881.00 (need to be updated)

In an effort to address the need of behavioral and social/emotional supports in the school readiness classrooms so all children are able to access appropriate education and be happy, productive students, the Ashford School Readiness Council seeks a dynamic service provider to work directly with students in the form of a behavioral interventionist to address behavioral and social/emotional Learning in children from approximately October 1, 2022 thru June 30, 2023.

The application deadline is 5 pm on April 1, 2022.  Please submit:

  1. One (1) electronic copy of the application to ashfordsrc@hotmail.com
  2. One (1) hard copy of the application with original signatures to Ashford School Readiness Council, 440 Westford Road, Ashford, CT 06278.

Grant award letters will be issued based on the annual appropriation of the Connecticut Legislature and the grant recipient’s compliance with the program requirements.
